Good2Talk
A service that connects Ontario post secondary students with a registered counsellor through 1 hr confidential sessions.
You do not need to be in a crisis to contact them. It can be school stress, family stress, talking through an anxiety attack, etc.
9-8-8 Suicide Prevention
This is the Canada-wide crisis hotline to reach mental health personnel who are specially trained to help with suicide-level trauma.
Please call if you feel close to the edge, or suspect that someone close to you might be in danger of self-harm.
Distress Centres of Greater Toronto
Free, 24/7 support for individuals experiencing a crisis or emotional distress (hotline, chat, and text).

Mental Self Help
Windvane
Online platform that offers a self-guided path to wellbeing. The toolkit draws directly on experiences from UofT students and faculty.
Bounce Back Ontario
An educational tool by the Canadian Mental Health Association that offers free lessons, workbooks, and telephone consults that help you reclaim your mental health and assist people close to you.
Specialized Offices
svpscentre.utoronto.ca: The Sexual Violence Prevention & Support Centre offers aid in any and all troubles surrounding sexual violence, including judgement-free advice and legal help.
antiracism.utoronto.ca: The Anti-Racism and Cultural Diversity Office handles all complaints of harassment and discrimination based on race, ancestry, citizenship, or ethnicity.
sgdo.utoronto.ca: The Sexual & Gender Diversity Office provides resources on sexual and gender diversity.

Publicly-Funded and Community Mental Health Resources
- Distress Centres of Greater Toronto — free, 24/7 support for individuals in a crisis and/or emotional distress (hotline, chat, and text).
- Ontario Structured Psychotherapy — free, publicly-funded, short-term cognitive behavioural therapy for adults dealing with depression and anxiety.

Insurance Coverage for Students and Postdocs
Plan | Coverage Details |

OHIP | The Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) covers essential psychiatric care from psychiatrists, including assessments, diagnosis, medication management, and treatment for severe mental health conditions. A family doctor’s referral is usually required. While hospital-based or publicly funded therapy and counselling are covered, OHIP generally does not cover private practice therapy with psychologists, social workers, or psychotherapists unless part of a specific program like Ontario Structured Psychotherapy (OSP). |
UTSU | Through the University of Toronto Student Union (UTSU) health plan, undergraduates are eligible for up to $100 per visit and 15 visits per policy year when visiting a mental health practitioner. |
UTGSU | Through the University of Toronto’s Graduate Student Union (UTGSU) health plan, graduate students are eligible for 100% coverage per visit with an annual maximum of $750 towards visiting psychologists, clinical counsellors, and licensed psychotherapists. The limit is a combined maximum across all practitioners. |
Greenshield | All unionized postdocs (CUPE 3902 Unit 5) have supplementary insurance through Greenshield and are eligible for a total of $3100 worth of mental health services per year. |
