Dr. Laura Newburgh

Laura Newburgh is working on the Canadian Hydrogen Intensity Mapping Experiment (CHIME). CHIME is a new project which will survey a vast volume of the Universe to produce a three-dimensional map of neutral hydrogen by measuring the cosmologically red-shifted 21cm radiation it emits.

Newburgh is focusing on instrumentation related to calibrating CHIME, in particular mapping its beams using auxiliary instruments and telescopes. She will also be analyzing data from CHIME.

She is also working on instrumentation for the 26-metre radio dish at the Dominion Radio Astronomical Observatory and the 40-metre radio dish at the Algonquin Radio Observatory.

Newburgh received her PhD from Columbia University. She spent three years at Princeton University as a postdoctoral scholar working on ACTPol, and joined the Dunlap Institute in July 2013.
