Travel to Boston
Air Travel to Boston
The closest airport to Cambridge,
and the only option for international flights, is
Boston Logan
International Airport (BOS).
Free shuttle buses run from
all terminals to the "Airport" station, on
the blue line of the Boston subway system.
Direct flights to Logan are available from most of the
major hubs in Western Europe, and from many cities throughout the
United States, Canada and the Caribbean. Coming from
Australia, United Airlines and Qantas provide
services via San Francisco or Los Angeles; code share
itineraries are available through American Airlines,
Air New Zealand and Ansett Australia. Approximate
flying time from Sydney to Boston is 24 hours.
For those traveling from within
in the US and Canada, much cheaper airfares
than to Logan may be available to
Providence (PVD), Manchester (MHT) or Hanscom Field (BED). For
information on how to get to/from these airports, see
this
link.
Train Travel to Boston
Amtrak
runs regular train services to Boston from New York City and
Washington DC, with connections to elsewhere in the country. Travel
time from New York to Boston is approximately 5 hours with a one-way
fare of about $50, while travel from Washington DC takes 8 hours and
costs around $70 (one-way). (The new "Acela" service is about an hour
faster from either city, but is considerably more expensive.)
All trains terminate at South Station, which is also
a station on the red line of
the
Boston subway system.
Bus Travel to Boston
Taking a bus to Boston can be a considerably cheaper (but considerably
less comfortable) alternative to train travel. Both
Greyhound and
Peter
Pan provide many daily services to Boston from cities throughout the
north-eastern United States. These buses all terminate at South
Station, which is also a station on the red line of
the Boston subway system.
