Attention: Dr. Patrick Slane

Applications are invited for a position as a postdoctoral fellow at Harvard College Observatory to work on neutron star and supernova remnant research in collaboration with Patrick Slane and Bryan Gaensler. The successful applicant will participate in new and ongoing programs within an enthusiastic research group, currently consisting of two senior scientists, four postdoctoral fellows and associated graduate and undergraduate students. Topics to be addressed will include observations and modeling of pulsar wind nebulae, supernova remnants and isolated neutron stars. This work will involve the analysis and interpretation of new and archival data at X-ray, radio, infrared and optical wavelengths.

Candidates must possess a PhD or equivalent in physics or astrophysics, should have demonstrated observational experience relating to supernova remnants and/or neutron stars, and should be skilled at oral and written communication. This position will be offered for an initial period of one year, with an extension to second and third years subject to funding availability and performance. The nominal starting date is September 1, 2006, but earlier starting dates are acceptable.

Interested candidates should submit a curriculum vitae, list of publications, statement of research interests and the names of three professional scientists who are familiar with the applicant's work and who could provide recommendation letters if needed. The closing date for applications is March 1, 2006. Electronic submissions are encouraged. Further information can be obtained via email from Drs. Slane & Gaensler at psr_snr@head.cfa.harvard.edu . Dr. Gaensler will also be available for discussion of this position at the January AAS meeting in Washington DC. Harvard University is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer.
