What else have I done?
From 1991 to 1994, I was enrolled in a Bachelor of Science degree at
the University of Sydney. I was awarded First Class Honours
and the University Medal
for my honours thesis, ``The pulsar / supernova remnant connection'', which
was included as a
research highlight in the
1994 RCfTA Annual Report.
I worked on several research projects during my undergraduate years.
Topics included:
- Neural Networks
Programs which simulated how a rat uses
its memory to find its way out of a simple maze.
- Thermal Conduction
The ability of different materials to
carry heat from one place to another.
- Refractive Interstellar Scintillation
Distant galaxies and quasars which ``twinkle'' as their light passes
through material in our own Galaxy.
- PSR 1259-63 and SS 2883
A star and a pulsar in orbit around
each other. Every 3.5 years the pulsar passes behind the star and is
eclipsed.
- Pulsar / Supernova Remnant Associations
When a massive star explodes, theory says it should leave behind both
a supernova remnant and a pulsar. However most pulsars are not near
supernova remnants and vice-versa. So is the theory wrong?
I have written papers on some of these topics - look
here for more info.
