Welcome to Prof. Sara Seager, who will be joining @cita_icat this September! She will be cross-appointed with the David A. Dunlap Department for Astronomy & Astrophysics, the Departments of Physics and Chemistry, with funding from the Dunlap Institute for Astronomy & Astrophysics. When she arrives, Seager will establish an ambitious interdisciplinary research program. This initiative will rethink the habitability of planets and accelerate the search for life across the cosmos.

✨Happy 15th anniversary to Dunlap Institute Director Suresh Sivanandam!✨ On October 25, 2010, Suresh started as a Dunlap Fellow at the Institute, was hired as an assistant professor in July, 2015, and took up the mantle of director in January, 2024. Congratulations for 15 years with the Institute!

Congratulations to Aishani Chaudhuri for winning this year's Mercedes T. Richards Award for Excellence in Summer Undergraduate Research! Aishani is a third year Astronomy student at the University of Toronto, Scarborough, and was part of the 2025 Summer Undergraduate Research Program. Last summer, she worked with Professor Ting Li and Postdoctoral Fellows Dr. Nathan Sandford and Dr. Gustavo Medina on characterizing binary stars in the DESI survey.

Aurorae, also known as the Northern Lights (or Southern Lights at the South Pole), happen when the sun is particularly active, as it is right now. The sun shoots off energetic particles that interact with the Earth's upper atmosphere, causing the beautiful light display seen here!
