Dr. Peter Klages

At the Dunlap Institute, Peter worked on the Canadian Hydrogen Intensity Mapping Experiment (CHIME), an innovative radio telescope that will survey a vast volume of the Universe to produce a three-dimensional map of neutral hydrogen by measuring the cosmologically red-shifted 21cm radiation it emits.

Peter’s research focuses on heterogeneous computing and real-time data processing techniques for CHIME. He worked at the Dunlap as an IBM employee as part of the Southern Ontario Smart Computing Innovation Platform (SOSCIP).

Peter left the Dunlap in May 2016 to take a position as a Postdoctoral Researcher in Medical Physics at the Department of Radiation Oncology in the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.

In his new position, he will be developing high-performance particle transport simulations in radiotherapy to analyze and assess the effects of radiation on biological systems. After assessing them, he will create modules in an effort to make these new tools accessible to clinical settings. He will also assist in the training of graduate students and technicians.

Peter received his PhD in physics from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, in October, 2012. He joined the Dunlap Institute in May 2013.
