Deborah Lokhorst

Deborah Lokhorst is a third-year PhD candidate working with Prof. Bob Abraham and the Dragonfly Telephoto Array.

Her work includes designing and implementing an instrumental upgrade for the Dragonfly to add narrow-band H-alpha imaging capability. She will use this upgrade to search for diffuse gas in the intergalactic medium to explore the gas content and inflow/feedback properties of galaxies and how they interact with the “cosmic web”.

During her time at UofT, she has also worked with Prof. Keith Vanderlinde and HIRAX (a South African radio telescope designed to trace large scale structure in the universe).  She graduated from the University of Victoria with a combined honours bachelor’s degree in Physics and Astronomy before coming to UofT to start her PhD.”
