Colleen Gihuly

Colleen Gilhuly is a second-year PhD student. Her research focuses on faint stellar halos surrounding spiral galaxies, built up by debris from past merger events. By targeting galaxies serendipitously viewed “edge-on” with the Dragonfly Telephoto Array, these very low surface brightness regimes can be mapped over a wide area while minimizing confusion or interference from disc-like components of the galaxy.

She received her BSc (Co-operative Honours Physics) from the University of
Waterloo, and completed her MSc (Astronomy) at Queen’s University.
